JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — The DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office has demanded a death sentence against 19 drug dealers in 2024, and this year, 11 dealers of illicit goods were charged with the same sentence.
“In 2024, there were 19 that we demanded to die. Then, from 2025 until April, there were 11 we demanded to die,” said DKI Jakarta Prosecutor’s Head (Kajati) Patris Yusrian Jaya when met in Jakarta on Thursday.
Patris also said that his party was committed to cracking down on drug dealers with maximum sentences.
“We are committed that the dealer, dealers, especially this producer, must be given severe punishment. If necessary, by the death penalty to provide a deterrent effect,” he said.
In a joint meeting of the House of Representatives Commission III and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Patris explained, his party had discussed various matters regarding the handling of drug cases.
“Earlier discussing the settlement of drug cases through the trial at the trial and the rehabilitation pathway for users, or in this case, we consider to be victims,” he said.
Patris also underlines drug users who are victims, to maximally use efforts, “Restorative Justice” Through rehabilitation.
“But we also have to find the right pattern, not to the assumption that this user is a victim and will be rehabilitated if caught,” he said.
He also assumed that the public would not assume that using drugs was not a risky thing, because later, if caught, they would be rehabilitated.
“This must also be balanced with the dangers of drugs for the health and dangers of drugs for the continuity of our young generation,” Patris said.
Patris also mentioned that during a meeting with the House of Representatives Commission III, it had given direction to the DKI Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) for the implementation of future tasks so that they could be carried out optimally
