Jakarta (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — High-Ranking Naval Officer to Lead Maritime Regional Commands, Says Navy Chief
In a recent announcement, Chief of Naval Staff (KASAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali disclosed that maritime regional commands (Kodamar) would be led by high-ranking two-star Navy officers or Rear Admirals.
“In the future, these Kodamars will be commanded by two-star senior officers,” stated Admiral Ali in Jakarta on Friday (08/03/2024).
The statement came during a press briefing by Chief of Naval Staff (KASAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali (center) after the handover ceremony of the Commander of the Navy Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada) RI at the Headquarters of the Navy Fleet Command RI, Jakarta, on Friday (8/3/2024).

Previously, Rear Admiral TNI Denih Hendrata served as the Commander of the Second Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada II), replacing Rear Admiral TNI Herru Kusmanto as the Commander of the Indonesian Fleet (Pangkoarmada RI), who is set to retire
KASAL added that the establishment of Maritime Regional Commands (Kodamar) is part of the organizational validation process from the Main Naval Base (Lantamal) planned by the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, as conveyed during the 2024 TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting.
Ali, speaking at the Navy Leadership Meeting in Jakarta late last month (29/3), mentioned that not all naval bases (Lantamal) would transition into Kodamars this year.
He explained that only main bases ready in terms of facilities and located in areas vulnerable to threats would become Kodamars.
“Regarding the naval bases, as mentioned by the Commander of TNI, some naval bases will become Kodamars, and there will be class A naval bases (Lanal). As for organizational validation, we are preparing for that. Perhaps not all naval bases will become Kodamars, but we are preparing some, especially those most vulnerable and ready in terms of facilities,” said Admiral Ali.
However, Ali could not specify which naval bases were projected to become Kodamars. So far, Balikpapan Naval Base, situated near the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), is projected to transform into a naval base and then a Kodamar.
Regarding the plan to establish a Kodamar in the IKN, Ali hoped that facilities and infrastructure would be reinforced, including the installation of sensors and infrastructure enabling Navy ships to dock.
During the press briefing in Jakarta on Friday, the Chief of Naval Staff also confirmed that there were no plans for fleet expansion in line with the development of the IKN.
“The fleet remains here, Fleet I remains in Tanjung Pinang, Fleet II remains in Surabaya, and Fleet III remains in Sorong,” he stated.
