Jakarta (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — Former President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), has expressed the Indonesian people’s desire to be led by Prabowo Subianto.
“Because the people genuinely desire it. Over the past 3-4 months, I have visited 85 regencies/cities, and as Allah willing, he will be elected as the next leader,” SBY stated during a gathering with Prabowo at an iftar event hosted by the Democratic Party in Jakarta on Wednesday (27/03/2024), as per his press release.
SBY admitted that during his direct campaigning efforts to support Prabowo Subianto, he found that the people placed their aspirations in the Defense Minister. Therefore, SBY firmly believes that Prabowo will emerge victorious.
“In the field, in villages, districts, and cities, I have personally heard strong support from the people, coupled with quick calculations favoring him. This is a significant consensus where the people want Mr. Prabowo to be their leader,” said SBY.
Furthermore, SBY conveyed his aspirations to Prabowo regarding the need to improve the electoral system, particularly addressing the exorbitant costs of politics.
“The cost of politics is escalating beyond reasonableness, and it’s becoming excessive. This needs to be addressed; we should not blame the people, but rather, it needs to be improved, changed, perfected, and further developed into a good election system,” he added.
SBY and the Democratic Party believe that Prabowo can undertake the task of leading Indonesia to a better future. According to him, Prabowo’s future leadership represents a historic mission.
“For the future of Indonesia, we entrust Mr. Prabowo. This is a historic mission, and I believe you will be able to change the electoral system for the better,” said the Chairman of the Democratic Party’s High Council.
During the same occasion, SBY also presented a painting titled “Standing Firm Like Rocks,” symbolizing his and the Democratic Party’s confidence in Prabowo’s future leadership. SBY revealed that he spent 10 hours creating the painting specifically for Prabowo.
“A rock in the middle of the ocean, this represents my belief in our future leader, Mr. Prabowo. Enhancing the welfare of the people, upholding law and justice, and other tasks that he will undertake, I hope this resonates with you,” SBY remarked.
Previously, the General Election Commission (KPU) of Indonesia, on Wednesday (20/03/2024) evening, declared Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the elected candidate pair in the 2024 Election, with a total of 96,214,691 votes.
Meanwhile, the pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar garnered 40,971,906 votes, while the pair Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md. secured 27,040,878 votes.
