JAKARTA, BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE — Chairperson of the Indonesian Lung Doctor Honorary Council Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama reminded how to give the best asthma medicine, namely by inhaling by patients using a tool called “Inhaler”.
“The best way of giving asthma drugs is to put them in the lungs, by inhaled by the patient. Then, a device called an inhaler. So, the best format for handling asthma is by inhaler, not a tablet, capsule, or syrup,” he said through his text message received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Tjandra said, the handling of asthma is basically by giving two types of drugs, namely the prevention (controller) and the defense (reliever). Control drugs function to treat inflammation/inflammation that causes asthma.
If an asthma attack has occurred because it is not well prevented, then the patient must be given medication for a medication that the narrowed airways can be widened.
“It means that previously the patient complained of tightness was relieved again,” he said.
Global data shows that every year, there are 260 million people affected by asthma, and even this disease is related to the occurrence of 450 thousand deaths a year.
Meanwhile, Basic Health Research data (Riskesdas) in 2018 show the prevalence of asthma in DKI Jakarta of 2.6 percent, or higher than in 2013, which is 5.2 percent.
“So, the impact is quite large, both in the world and also in our country. Not to mention, if it sees the impact that due to asthma attacks, the child does not enter school, or workers also do not come to work, and or disturb their productivity,” explained Tjandra.
Therefore, he hopes that the government will pay important attention to asthma control, which is important in realizing a healthy Indonesian society in order to welcome Indonesia Emas 2045.
