Bamus Betawi 1982 Hold Leadership Meeting Discusses DKJ Law and 2024 Election: The Strategic Role of Betawi Culture

Jakarta  (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — The 1982 Betawi Tribe Deliberation Board (Bamus Suku Betawi 1982) Leadership Meeting was held at the Tavia Heritage Hotel, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta on Sunday, June 9, 2024, starting at 9:00 am. This meeting aims to oversee the implementation of the Jakarta Special Region Law (DKJ Law) and prepare for the 2024 regional elections.

Chairman of the 1982 Betawi Tribal Bamus, H. Zainuddin, MH, SE, in his speech stated, “Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Special Region of Jakarta Province has changed the status of Jakarta, which is no longer the capital of the country, but as the center of the national economy, a global city, and an agglomeration area.

Indigenous Betawi people and their culture have existed for thousands of years in Jakarta. Law No.2 of 2024, especially Article 31 on customary institutions, prioritizes the promotion of Betawi culture along with other cultures and includes a cultural endowment fund. This clarifies the strategic position of the Betawi people as indigenous people, native sons, as well as the core residents of Jakarta.”

In line with Zainuddin, KH Lutfi Hakim, MA, who served as Secretary of the 1982 Bamus Suku Betawi Customary Council and Chairman of the Betawi Rempug Forum, added, “After the national capital moves, Jakarta natives must be masters in their own village, not like waiters who provide food but are not allowed to eat or touch the food served. Jakarta natives should be given a role to participate in building the city.”

The 1982 Betawi Tribal Bamus Leadership Meeting produced several internal and external recommendations. Internal recommendations focus on improving organizational governance and management. While external recommendations include the implementation of the DKJ Law, Draft Regional Regulations (Raperda), and preparation for the 2024 Pilkada.

In an effort to strengthen the existence of the Betawi community since the enactment of the DKJ Law No.2 of 2024, the 1982 Betawi Tribal Bamus proposes several things to the local and central governments:

1. Placing Betawi culture as a provincial characteristic and developing it through legal business entities such as souvenirs, culinary, architecture, fashion, batik, and school subjects strengthened in regional regulations (perda) and governor regulations (pergub).

2. Placing and involving the best Betawi cadres in the implementation of development both in the Agglomeration Area, Agglomeration Service Agency, Institutions, Regional business entities, scholarships, and other business development.

3. For the 2024 Regional Election, the 1982 Betawi Tribal Bamus requests political parties in Jakarta to encourage the best Betawi cadres to be nominated as Governor or Deputy Governor of the Special Region of Jakarta Province 2024 -2029.

4. The elected Governor and Deputy Governor should honor the best Betawi cadres to be appointed as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Regent and Deputy Regent in the Jakarta Special Region Provincial Government.

Ridwan Boim who represented the Regional Representative Council of the 1982 Betawi Tribal Bamus, and Subhan Ansori from the organizing committee.

With the enactment of the DKJ Law No.2 of 2024, the 1982 Betawi Tribal Bamus hopes that the Betawi people can be increasingly considered and actively involved in the development of Jakarta, as well as maintaining and preserving Betawi culture which has become an inseparable part of Jakarta’s history and identity.
