Paris (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — The Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament, Puan Maharani, engaged in a fruitful discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron during the Women Speakers’ Summit 2024 at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Thursday (03/07/2024).
According to a press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday, Puan highlighted the positive growth of the Indonesia-France relationship over the past 73 years while conversing with President Macron.
“This is a proud achievement that always captures our attention in Indonesia,” expressed Puan.
She emphasized France’s significance as one of Indonesia’s key partners in Europe and expressed hopes for increased bilateral relations, particularly in strategic cooperation within the realms of politics, defense, and economy.
Puan also advocated for the enhancement of economic and investment cooperation between the two nations. “As the parliamentary leader, I wholeheartedly support various initiatives in this regard,” she affirmed.
President Macron concurred on the need to continually improve bilateral relations between Indonesia and France. He extended congratulations to the Indonesian people on the successful conduct of the elections.
“May the bilateral relations between Indonesia and France continue to thrive in the future,” stated President Macron, accompanied by the President of the French National Assembly, Madame Yaël Braun-Pivet. He added, “Indonesia is a friend of France.”
Following the meeting with President Macron, Puan and the participants of the Women Speakers’ Summit 2024 returned to the event venue. President Macron hosted the meeting to welcome the 24 female parliamentary leaders participating in the summit.
Meanwhile, at the forum addressing various aspects of women’s empowerment and gender equality from March 6 to 7, 2024, Puan was accompanied by Indonesian MPs Charles Honoris and Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, along with Indonesia’s Ambassador to France, Mohamad Oemar.
