Banda Aceh (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Indonesia has announced the destruction of a four-hectare marijuana plantation from three different locations in the Aceh Besar Regency.
Director of Narcotics Deputy for Eradication of the BNN, Brigadier General Pol Ruddi Setiawan, revealed that the two destruction sites covered a total area of four hectares. The destruction operation involving 170 personnel from various agencies including the BNN Central, BNNP Aceh, the Indonesian National Army (TNI)/Police, Satpol PP, Aceh Attorney General’s Office (Kejati Aceh), Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Department of Agriculture, and the Aceh Forestry Department took place in Aceh Besar on Wednesday (06/03/2024).
The destruction locations comprised two marijuana fields, some of which had already been harvested, located at elevations of 129 meters and 109 meters above sea level in Lamlung Village, Indrapuri District, Aceh Besar. “From these two locations, we found a total area of two hectares, with approximately five thousand remaining marijuana plants,” he said.
Additionally, the team also discovered and simultaneously destroyed two hectares of marijuana fields located at an elevation of 600 meters above sea level in Meurah Village, Mukim Lamteuba, Seulimeum District, Aceh Besar. “There, we found approximately 15,000 ready-to-harvest marijuana plants,” he added.
The total weight of the wet marijuana plants destroyed from the three discovery points amounted to around seven tons. Brigadier General Pol Ruddi Setiawan also highlighted that the discovery of the marijuana fields originated from community information regarding marijuana shipments from Aceh to Lampung. As a result of BNN’s investigative follow-up, a suspect with the initials RZ, who was carrying 12 sacks of dried marijuana weighing 200 kg, was arrested on Saturday (02/03/2024) in the Aceh Besar area.
The destruction of the marijuana fields in Aceh Besar was carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 92 paragraphs (1) and (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, which regulate the destruction of narcotic plants. Brigadier General Pol Ruddi Setiawan emphasized that perpetrators of narcotics possession crimes could face imprisonment for life or a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison.
