Boosting Public Engagement: Nezar Patria Advocates for 150 Media Collaboratives

Bandung (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria is pushing for 150 collaborative media centers to enhance the dissemination of government program information to the public.

“So this strength needs to be considered, we need to reflect on whether we have been maximal in carrying out communication tasks and information dissemination,” Nezar said in a press release on Thursday (03/07/2024).

He conveyed this during the 2024 Media Center Awards (AMC) in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday (03/05/2024).

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has established a network for managing media centers with ministries, agencies, and local governments.

A total of 150 media centers spread across provincial, district, and city governments have synergized with the Directorate General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics in managing content and disseminating information about government policies and programs.

According to Nezar, the media center network has become a large “content factory” in Indonesia. Moreover, content in the form of news and photos will help people define the social, economic, political, and cultural situations or realities through the media ecosystem every day.

“There are 150 Media Centers reported by Mr. Director General IKP Usman Kansong, (consisting of) 8,000 news content and 3,000 photos produced every month. So actually we are a quite large content factory for the information production scale in this Republic,” he said.

Nezar believes that information dissemination would be more optimal if it involves digital media in the regions. According to him, the use of digital media is inevitable because it has become the main source of information replacing mainstream media.

“Imagine if one media center in each district and city has online media partners, which currently amount to many across the archipelago. According to the Press Council, there are 44 thousand online media in the regions. Well, we can imagine 8,000 news content being amplified by tens of thousands of online media,” said Nezar.

Moreover, Deputy Minister Nezar also encourages the adaptation of digital technology, especially social media platforms, to reach and meet the needs of the public.

In Indonesia, he said, 72.6 percent of respondents get information from social media.

As part of the AMC 2024 series, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics launched the Kominfo Newsroom. The Kominfo Newsroom, managed by the Directorate of Media Management of the Directorate General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, has seven channels consisting of the Indonesia Portal (Indonesia.go.id), InfoPublik, GPR TV, Indonesia Baik, FMB9, Komunika, and GPR News.

The Kominfo Newsroom is one of the efforts to ensure that information access is easily obtained by the public to the remote corners of the country.

Nezar said the Kominfo Newsroom plays a role in producing and disseminating public information with the vision and mission of providing easy access to up-to-date, accountable, and trustworthy information about government policies, both ministries, agencies, and local governments.

“The presence of media centers and other Kominfo Newsroom partners, especially in producing and disseminating positive information, is certainly hopeful. This role becomes even bigger if it can penetrate even further. It can be said that we are the largest content creator,” he said.
