The Alumni Association or ILUNI SMAN 84 Jakarta held a Silahturahmi to find solutions to open a business for its members who want to open micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the field of mini cafes and coffee export opportunities.
The event took place at Kafe Kopi Bareng (Kobar) on Jl. Sumatra, Jombang, South Tangerang, on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
Present in this Silahturahmi was the Chairman of ILUNI, Bang Boim; Deputy Chairman, Bang Aris; Advisory Board Member, Bang Budhi; Head of the Data Center and Public Communication, Bang Aulia; Alumni Figure, Bang Radian; as well as Kak Lia and Kak Irma. From Kobar, Om Ralf was present as the founder.
In this gathering, various important topics regarding the coffee industry were discussed.
Om Ralf explained why coffee is currently a highly demanded commodity in the world market and has a high price.
He also discussed the coffee business process from upstream to downstream, including the revitalization of coffee plantations with superior seeds, how to wash coffee to create various superior variants, and the types of coffee circulating in the domestic and international markets.
According to Om Ralf, the world community and coffee sellers in foreign cafés are very proud of Indonesian coffee.
“In fact, coffee that Kobar Café considers to be of poor quality is still sought after by buyers from abroad,” said Om Ralf.
Meanwhile, Bang Radian recounted, “When my family and I went to Switzerland, the café owners there sold Indonesian coffee variants at high prices. They also boast that Indonesian coffee is better than other countries’ coffee”.
Bang Boim, who also has a deep knowledge of coffee, explained to the alumni about premium coffee.
The alumni were given the opportunity to smell different types of premium coffee, which despite being five years old, still had a strong aroma.
“This is what is called premium coffee. Because if it’s not, it has a musty smell and is moldy. but these coffees are not like that. This means they are premium coffee.”
Therefore, it would be a shame if the premium quality of Indonesian coffee is not favored by Indonesians themselves.
The gathering also discussed opportunities for alumni who want to open a franchise or mobile coffee business with a minimal budget. Om Ralf is ready to train the alumni to become reliable baristas.
In addition, the alumni were introduced to the roasting process of premium Toraja, Kerinci, and Ijen coffee beans, as well as collection-grade coffees such as Gayo Wine, Wild Luwak, Blue Batak, and the most expensive Blue Mountain coffee.
Inspired by the results of the silahturahmi, Bang Aulia plans to export these premium Indonesian coffees through his UMKM company, Jakarta Ekpor Impor with the initial target of France.
With this Silahturahmi, ILUNI SMAN 84 Jakarta and Kobar Café agreed that the profits obtained will be used for the development of alumni in need, orphans from among SMAN 84 alumni, and orphans who have been under the auspices of Bang Aris and Om Ralf.
