Collaborative Peacekeeping Efforts: Indonesian Troops Train Convoy Escort to UNIFIL Soldiers

Kawkaba, Lebanon (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — In a collaborative effort to enhance peacekeeping operations, Indonesian troops serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have conducted a specialized training program on convoy escort for 36 soldiers hailing from diverse nations currently stationed within UNIFIL.

The training, spearheaded by the Mechanized Battalion Task Force (Satgas Yonmek) of the Indonesian Garuda Contingent XXIII-R/UNIFIL, took place over a three-day period at the Headquarters of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) in Kawkaba, Southern Lebanon.

According to a statement released by the Indonesian Military’s Information Center (Puspen TNI) in Jakarta on Thursday, March 28, 2024, the training initiative was carried out in response to a request from the Commander of the Eastern Sector (Seceast) of UNIFIL.

Colonel Kav Nanak Yuliana, Deputy Commander of Seceast UNIFIL, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing its significance in fostering knowledge-sharing and experience exchange among peacekeeping forces serving in Lebanon.

“I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to Indobatt and the instructional team for their dedication in ensuring the success of this training activity,” remarked Nanak.

He elaborated on the objectives of the training, highlighting its focus on enhancing the knowledge and competency of participating troops in escort and convoy protection procedures and techniques.

Nanak also stressed the potential of the training to strengthen cooperation between UNIFIL and LAF as key partners in UN peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon.

“I am confident that the skills acquired during this course will assist participants in enhancing their capabilities in conducting safe escort and convoy protection operations,” added the Deputy Commander of Seceast UNIFIL.

At the conclusion of the training, which commenced on Sunday, March 24, participants were awarded certificates of participation by UNIFIL.

The Indonesian Garuda Contingent XXIII-R UNIFIL commenced its mission in Lebanon on March 9, 2024. Led by Colonel Inf Ragung Ismail Akbar, the contingent comprises 850 troops, including 810 male soldiers and 40 female soldiers (Wan) from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). They are divided into six companies, namely Headquarters Company (Masatgas), Support Company, and Company D stationed at UNP 7-1, Company A at UNP 9-63 and UNP 9-15, Company B at UNP 7-3, and Company C at UNP 9-2.

In addition to providing training, the troops have also been offering free medical services to the residents of Dier Siriane, alongside their regular duties within the Indobatt UNIFIL contingent.
