North Penajam Paser, IKN (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — In a significant move poised to reshape Indonesia’s administrative landscape, the Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara (OIKN) awaits the formal designation of the capital city’s relocation from Jakarta to Nusantara City, situated across portions of North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara Regencies in East Kalimantan Province.
Bambang Susantono, Head of OIKN, expressed, “We are awaiting the official declaration of the capital city’s transfer from Jakarta to Nusantara City,” during an address in Penajam on Friday, March 29, 2024.
This year marks a pivotal moment for OIKN, transitioning into the governing body for Indonesia’s new capital city. Subsequently, the official declaration of the capital city’s relocation is set to follow.
Providing insight into the unique governance structure of Nusantara City, the head of OIKN holds ministerial-level authority, appointed by the President with approval from the People’s Representative Council (DPR).
Moreover, in Nusantara City, only presidential elections occur; there are no elections for local or administrative heads as they are appointed by the head of OIKN. Administrative regions within Nusantara City are divided into city-level administrative areas called “kutanegara” and district-level administrative areas referred to as “nagara.”
Explaining further, Bambang clarified that “kutanegara” or “nagara” are subdivided into several administrative regions called “banua,” with no district divisions within Nusantara City.
The specialized authority of OIKN encompasses facilitating and incentivizing investments, collaborating with development partner regions, environmental planning, as well as spatial regulation and planning in strategic areas. However, matters such as foreign policy, defense, justice, monetary and fiscal policies, and religion remain under the purview of the central government.
Upon completion of all processes, residents of Sepaku District in Penajam Paser Utara Regency will transition to Nusantara City’s identity cards, marking the official shift of Indonesia’s capital city.
Bambang Susantono emphasized that “Jakarta will retain its role as the financial and economic hub, while Nusantara City will complement Jakarta’s functions.”
This impending transition heralds a new era for Indonesia, with Nusantara City poised to emerge as a symbol of the nation’s progress and vision for the future. As the nation awaits the formal declaration, anticipation builds for the transformation that lies ahead.
