Semarang (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — Floods and landslides have hit Semarang City, Central Java, following moderate to heavy rainfall that occurred from Wednesday (13/03/2024) afternoon to evening.
Endro Martanto, the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Semarang City, stated on Wednesday (13/03/2024) that the floodwaters varied between 20 to 70 centimeters.
Several areas affected by the floods include Kaligawe Street in Muktoharjo Village, Tambakrejo Village, Sambirejo Village, Krobokan Village, and Kudu Village.
Endro added that flood spots experienced an upward trend due to the ongoing rain in Semarang City.
Apart from floods, he mentioned that landslides due to bad weather also occurred in several areas in Semarang City.
“So far, there have been reports of 10 landslide incidents,” said Endro.
He stated that there were no casualties in the various hydrometeorological disasters.
He mentioned that various efforts have been made by the BPBD, such as deploying portable pumps in flood-affected areas, providing temporary treatment in landslide-prone areas, and clearing locations of fallen trees due to this bad weather.
