Indonesian Vocational Students Shine at P3DN Business Summit in Bali

Bali (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — The 7th Domestic Product Utilization Business Meeting (P3DN) in 2024, held in Bali, is seen as a showcase of the maturity of Indonesian vocational education students in creating original products that are market-worthy. Kiki Yuliati, the Director General of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), made this statement during the closing of the Business Matching VII in Sanur, Bali, on Thursday (03/07/2024).

Yuliati emphasized that the evidence of this maturity is evident in the strong interest and commitment from national industries to widely market products created by vocational school and college students. Notable examples include the laser-cutting robot produced by SMK NU Miftahul Huda Malang, which garnered attention from two national shipbuilding companies based in Java.

Furthermore, a drone for aerospace surface inspection and electronic component products (PCB) created by researchers and students at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) attracted interest from healthcare equipment manufacturers. Additionally, the virus detection reagent (Polymerase Chain Reaction/PCR) for shrimp farming from the University of Surabaya and the electric vehicle charging station from Airlangga University have already captured the attention of state-owned manufacturing companies for potential development.

“In essence, the influx of orders serves as sufficient proof. When the market requires a teaching factory or partners for preparing spare parts or handling part of the production, they already know which vocational school, polytechnic, or university to turn to,” she stated.

Yuliati reassured that the government would actively support the production of these nationally made products, ensuring they are mass-produced through potential collaborations. To support P3DN as a substitute for imports, Kemendikbudristek believes that the progress of vocational education institutions is not only determined by employment absorption but also by the extent to which the produced products can meet societal needs.

“The key is not to take practical training lightly because if these goods don’t succeed and end up being discarded, no one wants that, so everything is well-prepared,” she added.

The 7th Business Meeting took place from March 4th to 7th, 2024, in Sanur, Bali, as an initiative by the Ministry of Industry in collaboration with Kemendibudristek and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to support the enhancement of domestic products (P3DN).

On the closing day of the business meeting, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang revealed that the realization of domestic product purchases reached a total of IDR 213.68 trillion. The largest share of this was purchased by ministries, institutions, and local governments, totaling IDR 146.94 trillion, with state-owned enterprises (BUMN) contributing IDR 66.74 trillion.

In addition to the increased realization of domestic product purchases, the value of commitments ready to be realized by budget holders (central and local governments) to manufacturers this year also increased to IDR 1,148.25 trillion compared to IDR 1,157 trillion in 2023. BUMN commitments reached IDR 842.56 trillion, and commitments from ministries, institutions, and local governments amounted to IDR 585.69 trillion.

Kemendikbudristek has become one of the government agencies with the highest spending on domestic products in this activity, following the Ministry of Defense with BUMN (PT LEN and Pindad).
