Jakarta 2024 Election Discussion by Bisik Kawan Community

JAKARTA, CAKRAWALA.CO – Bisik Kawan Community, a group of young people active in social politics in Jakarta, held a Political Discussion titled “The Election is Near, What Can Youth Do?” at Roetara Cafe, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta (30/8/2024). The discussion aimed to encourage youth participation in the 2024 Election, recognizing that Millennials and Gen Z make up the largest voter group in this election.

“The role of youth should be at the forefront of political development in this country; youth must not be passive,” said Aris Winata, Chairman of Bisik Kawan Community.

One of the speakers, M. Ichwan Ridwan, Chairman of KAHMI JAYA, emphasized the importance of this discussion for young people to take an active role in the Election, rather than just being used as tools to secure a candidate’s victory. According to data, Millennials and Gen Z will dominate the vote in the 2024 Election nationally, with a total of 56.8 percent.

The election is a time when young people have the power to bring about real change. Every individual’s vote is a crucial pillar in ensuring fair and accurate representation. Without active public participation, the democratic process may weaken, and the results may not reflect the majority’s will.

Another speaker, young NU leader Nurhasanudin, commonly known as Acang, stressed that youth participation in the Election is not just about choosing leaders but also about shaping an inclusive future.

“Youth voices will reflect social change, new values, and the evolving needs of society. Effective political education is key for knowledgeable and critical young voters,” said Acang, former Chairman of KNPI North Jakarta.

Ronald Reagen Y Tanamal, a member of the North Jakarta Bawaslu, highlighted the role of youth in monitoring the election process and the rules that may be violated by participants or organizers. Youth must be brave enough to criticize and report violations to Bawaslu and the authorities.

Collaboration between Bawaslu and the public, especially youth, is essential to ensure the democratic process runs smoothly, honestly, and fairly.

The enthusiasm of the participants, all from the Millennial generation, was evident during the event. They actively interacted with the speakers, offering sharp criticisms and questions about the upcoming election and Election.(sdk)
