Jakarta (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has taken significant steps today by summoning H. Kaharudin, the former Chairman of the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) of Lamongan from 2014 to 2018, along with several Lamongan Regency officials. This summons is in connection to an ongoing investigation regarding alleged corruption in the construction of the Lamongan Regency government office building during the 2017-2019 fiscal year.
Ali Fikri, Head of the KPK Information Department, confirmed the scheduled questioning of witnesses, including H. Kaharudin, at the Surabaya Metropolitan Police Station today. “The investigative team has scheduled the questioning of witnesses, particularly H. Kaharudin, in his capacity as the Chairman of the DPRD of Lamongan from 2014 to 2018,” stated Ali Fikri in Jakarta on Monday (25/03/2024).
Among those summoned by the KPK are Saim, former Vice Chairman of the Lamongan DPRD for the 2014-2019 period, Yoyon Sudiono, the chairman of Gapensi Surabaya for the period 2016-2021, as well as directors of various companies involved in the construction project.
The KPK initiated the investigation into the alleged corruption case involving the construction of the government office building in Lamongan in September 2023. However, the identities of the suspects have not been disclosed, pending further actions such as arrests or detentions.
As part of the investigation, the KPK has conducted searches at several locations, including government offices within the Lamongan Regency and the official residence of the Lamongan Regent, as well as private residences and offices.
The financial losses to the state resulting from the alleged corruption are estimated to be around Rp151 billion. Notably, Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi was questioned by the KPK on October 12, 2023, in connection to this case. Yuhronur, after the interrogation, stated, “I was questioned as a witness, and there were several breaks during the questioning.” Regarding the suspects and further witnesses, he urged the media to await announcements from the KPK.
Yuhronur emphasized that his summons as a witness was related to his role as the former secretary of the Lamongan Regency. “It will be revealed later. I’m not comfortable saying it now,” he added.
The KPK’s efforts signify a crucial step in combating corruption within the Lamongan Regency, demonstrating their commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in governance.
This development underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and local authorities in eradicating corruption and ensuring proper utilization of public funds for the benefit of the community.
