London (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) – In a remarkable turn of events, British law enforcement announced on Monday (04/03/2024) the recovery of a Ferrari that was stolen from Austrian Formula One ace Gerhard Berger in Italy back in 1995.
The scarlet Ferrari F512M, one of two luxury vehicles pilfered while their owners attended the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, has resurfaced after years of obscurity.
London’s Metropolitan Police disclosed that they stumbled upon the stolen Ferrari following a tip-off from the manufacturer in January. It was revealed that a UK broker was in the process of selling the car to a buyer in the United States when suspicions arose regarding its origins.
Upon investigation by the force’s Organized Vehicle Crime Unit, it was unearthed that the Ferrari had been transported to the UK from Japan in late 2023. The car, valued at nearly £350,000 ($444,000), was promptly seized by authorities.
Constable Mike Pilbeam, who spearheaded the operation, commented, “Our inquiries were painstaking and included contacting authorities from around the world. We worked quickly with partners including the National Crime Agency, as well as Ferrari and international car dealerships, and this collaboration was instrumental in understanding the vehicle’s background and stopping it from leaving the country.”
No arrests have been made thus far, and the whereabouts of the second stolen Ferrari remain unknown.
Manufactured between 1994 and 1996, Ferrari produced a limited run of 501 F512M models, boasting a staggering top speed of 315 kilometers per hour (196 miles per hour).
