Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Congratulates Prabowo Subianto on Election Success

Palestine (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas extended congratulations to Prabowo Subianto, a contender in the Indonesian presidential race, for his leading position in the vote count against two other pairs of candidates.

The message was conveyed by Mahmoud via a letter sent by the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta dated February 25, 2024. Prabowo shared the letter on his @prabowo X account on Thursday (07/03/2024).

“We are pleased to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Your Excellency for successfully earning the trust of your fellow Indonesians and winning the presidential election,” Mahmoud stated in the letter.

Prabowo responded to the kind words through his own X account.

“It is an honor for me to receive congratulations on the preliminary results of the 2024 Presidential Election from the President of the State of Palestine, His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas,” Prabowo said in his post.

Prabowo also assured his continued support for Palestine amidst its current conflicts, in its quest for independence.

“The Indonesian people always stand by Palestine during its toughest times and will continue to support the Palestinian people’s struggle for complete peace and independence,” Prabowo affirmed.

Previously, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was among the first to congratulate Indonesia and Prabowo. Through his X account, he congratulated Prabowo for emerging as the elected presidential candidate of Indonesia according to quick counts.

“I feel honored to be the first foreign leader to converse with Prabowo today, who holds a clear advantage in both official and unofficial capacities, regarding my aspirations for the future of Australia-Indonesia relations,” Albanese wrote.

He further expressed, “I look forward to collaborating with the new Indonesian president following the inauguration in October 2024.”
