Police arrest the perpetrators of extortion with a video call mode

JAKARTA, BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE — The Directorate of Siber Metro Jaya Siber Detective arrested the extortion perpetrators who used the video call mode in one of the social media applications.

“There are two people who were named suspects, namely I (27) and MD (25). For suspects, I still DPO. These suspects are brothers,” said Kasubdit 4 of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, AKBP Herman Edco Wijaya Simbolon, during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The incident began when the victim with the initials BP opened the Bigo social media application and received a friendship with one of the accounts named Fariosa on January 28, 2025.

“From that friendship, the victim is directed to click on the link dating chat. The link is a link to switch to a telegram account with the name of the Babyfariosa (Real) account, “he said.

Then, because they are interested in the appearance of the account profile with a picture of a beautiful woman, the victim is persuaded and seduced to do VCS (video call sex).

“Then, the victim followed the directions of the perpetrators, who were finally unconsciously recorded by the perpetrators while doing VCS,” Herman said.

The perpetrators also threatened the victim by sending a WhatsApp (WA) message and would spread the VCS recording of the victim if the victim did not transfer some money.

“Because the victim feels scared and threatened by the video that will be distributed by the perpetrators, then the victim obeys the perpetrator’s orders by transferring to the perpetrator’s account of Rp3.3 million,” he said.

After the victim transferred money to the perpetrator, he said, the victim was still threatened and terrorized by the perpetrator, by continuing to ask for some money from the victim.

The suspects are subject to Article 45 paragraph (10), jo Article 27B paragraph 2 of Law Number 11 of 2008 as amended by Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).

“With a maximum imprisonment of six years and/or a maximum fine of Rp1 billion,” Herman said.
