Jakarta (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, or affectionately known as Jokowi, has returned to the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Wednesday (06/03/2024) around 19.00 WIB, after attending the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne, Australia.
Information from the Presidential Secretariat Press Bureau received in Jakarta on Wednesday (06/03/2024) explained that President Jokowi was welcomed by the Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander, General Agus Subiyanto, the Indonesian National Police Chief, General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono.
Previously, the President and his entourage departed using the Indonesian Presidential Aircraft-1 from the Melbourne Jet Base Airport, Australia, around 16.15 local time.
In the conference, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of cooperation between ASEAN and Australia in commemorating the 50 years of partnership in 2024.
During the plenary session of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne on Wednesday (06/03/2024), Jokowi highlighted that ASEAN and Australia share a joint responsibility to maintain stability, peace, and prosperity in the region.
President Jokowi also expressed that ASEAN is predicted to become a global economic power and occupy the fourth position in the world by 2040 with a population of more than 650 million people, the majority of whom are young workforce with high technological literacy. Therefore, Jokowi emphasized the importance of Australia’s support in maximizing this potential.
Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, urged the leaders of ASEAN member countries to transform their 50-year-old relationship into greater practical cooperation.
PM Albanese emphasized that the celebration of the 50-year friendship between Australia and ASEAN is an opportunity to celebrate success and reaffirm confidence in ASEAN centrality. As the host of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, Australia is committed to strengthening closer relations and cooperation with ASEAN member countries.
