Semarang (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — President Joko Widodo of the Republic of Indonesia arrived at the Ahmad Yani Army Air Base in Semarang, Central Java, on Friday (22/03/2024), to inspect flood-affected areas in Demak Regency.
According to an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat’s Press Bureau received in Jakarta on Friday, President Jokowi departed from Jakarta to Semarang using a TNI AU Boeing 737-400 aircraft. The President and his entourage landed at approximately 08.00 AM local time.
The President’s arrival in Semarang was greeted by Acting Governor of Central Java, Nana Sudjana, Commander of IV/Diponegoro Military Region Major General TNI Deddy Suryadi, Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Ahmad Luthfi, and Commander of Ahmad Yani Air Base Colonel Cpn Ihwan Okti Riyadi.
Immediately after disembarking from the aircraft, the President and his entourage proceeded to Demak Regency to inspect the flood-affected areas.
Accompanying the President on the visit to Demak Regency is the Minister of Public Works and People’s Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that the flood situation in Demak Regency, Central Java, is worsening due to the breach of six local river embankments.
President Jokowi had previously stated that the process of closing the Wulan River embankment in Norowito Hamlet, Ngemplik Wetan Village, Karanganyar District, Demak Regency, Central Java Province, would be completed no later than Friday.
A total of 24,436 residents of Demak Regency, Central Java, are still displaced due to the floods inundating their homes until Thursday (21/3/2024).
