Jakarta (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — The Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General’s Office has named one suspect in a case of alleged corruption related to sugar importation by PT SMIP from 2020 to 2023.
“An individual has been designated as a suspect, namely RD, who served as the Director of PT SMIP,” stated Ketut Sumedana, Head of the Attorney General’s Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum), in a statement released in Jakarta on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
According to Ketut, suspect RD had evaded several summons from investigators for questioning.
As a result, investigators had to personally go to Pekanbaru City to apprehend suspect RD.
Intensive questioning of two witnesses, RD and YD, was conducted by investigators at the Attorney General’s Office.
“The Investigative Team has gathered sufficient evidence to designate RD, Director of PT SMIP, as a suspect,” he added.
In this case, RD, as Director of PT SMIP in 2021, allegedly manipulated data on the importation of raw crystal sugar by substituting it with white crystal sugar, while altering the packaging bags to make it appear as if raw crystal sugar had been imported for sale in the domestic market.
The actions of suspect RD are in violation of Minister of Trade Regulations, in conjunction with Minister of Industry Regulations and other legislation, resulting in financial losses to the state in the sugar importation activities conducted by PT SMIP.
RD is charged under Article 2 paragraph (1) and Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 31 Year 1999 as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 Year 2001 in conjunction with Republic of Indonesia Law Number 31 Year 1999 on the Amendment to Republic of Indonesia Law Number 31 Year 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) clause 1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code.
After being designated as a suspect, RD will be detained at the Salemba Branch of the Attorney General’s Office Detention Center for the next 20 days.
“This detention period is effective from March 29 to April 17,” Ketut mentioned.
