Jakarta (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, and Chairperson of the French National Assembly, Madame Yaël Braun-Pivet, held an important meeting to discuss women’s issues and elections in Indonesia. The meeting is part of joint efforts to advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment in the context of political leadership.
“In our capacity as women leaders, we have a responsibility to advocate for gender equality and empower women. We understand how challenging it is to be a leader in the political world,” said Puan in her written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (06/03/2024).
The bilateral meeting between Puan and Yaël Braun-Pivet took place at the Palais Bourbon, the French parliament building in Paris, on Tuesday (05/03/2024). They met as part of attending the High-Level Conference of Women Parliament Speakers or Women Speakers’ Summit 2024 held in Paris, France.
According to Puan, the Women Speakers’ Summit 2024 forum focusing on women’s issues is very important amid the current global crisis. By sharing experiences and ideas, women parliament leaders can strengthen cooperation to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Yaël Braun-Pivet also expressed her support for enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries. The discussion between them was held with great enthusiasm. Yaël also inquired about Indonesia’s experience in holding simultaneous elections, while in France, they are held gradually between legislative and presidential elections. She acknowledged the challenges faced by women in France in accessing important positions despite the recognition of the principle of equal rights.
The Women Speakers’ Summit 2024 will address several women’s issues in two discussion forums. The first forum will discuss “Education in Equality, Health, and the Struggle against Violence against Women”, while the second forum will delve into gender equality, parity, and empowerment in politics, highlighting women’s role models.
