Remembering Marco Simoncelli, MotoGP legend who was killed on the track

JAKARTA, BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE — In the world of motor racing, the name Marco Simoncelli continues to echo as a figure who is not only talented but also full of enthusiasm, courage, and sincerity. Although his departure occurred more than a decade ago, the memory of the MotoGP legend remained alive and left a deep trace in the hearts of his fans.

Marco Simoncelli was born in Cattolica, Italy, on January 20, 1987, and grew up in the small town of Coriano, Rimini Province. From an early age, his love for the world of racing has been clearly visible. He started his racing career in the Minimoto event and managed to become a champion in 1999. Over time, Simoncelli stepped slowly but surely to the highest level in the world of international motor racing.

He debuted at the 125cc Grand Prix in 2002, before then rising to the 250cc class and winning the peak of his achievements in 2008 by winning the world title. This achievement confirmed that Simoncelli was not just an ordinary racer but a star who was shining brightly.

With a distinctive, aggressive racing style and iconic frizzy hair that makes it easy to recognize, Simoncelli stole the attention of MotoGP fans around the world. In 2010, he rose to the main class of MotoGP, joining the ranks of the world’s best racers. His career at the summit had just begun and was full of hope.

However, fate said differently. On October 23, 2011, the world of racing was shocked by sad news. In the Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang Circuit, Simoncelli had a fatal accident. He lost control of his motorcycle and was then hit by two other racers, Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi, who did not have time to avoid. Simoncelli was declared dead at the age of 24.

This news hit the MotoGP community and motor racing lovers throughout the world. Especially for Valentino Rossi, Simoncelli’s close friend and MotoGP legend, who was so devastated by the departure of his junior.

“I will never forget how the times after the race in Malaysia is one of the worst moments in my life,” Rossi said in an emotional voice.

“We lost a great racer at that time. He could achieve big things. He will be a great duel with the top racers at this time. I am sure of that.”

Rossi recalled how their closeness was established in the last five years of Simoncelli’s life. Both of them often spend time together and share the same dream as a professional racer. “I lost a good friend. I can still feel the loneliness he left today,” said Rossi.

Marco Simoncelli is not only remembered because of his achievements, but also because of his warm personality and high fighting spirit. He became an inspiration for many young racers and encouraged awareness of the importance of safety on the racing track.

Simoncelli’s legacy lives through various dedications, ranging from awards in his name to inspiration that is instilled in Rossi’s VR46 Riders Academy – a racer academy that was also born from Simoncelli’s determination to form a better MotoGP future.

Now, every time the start flag is hoisted and the machines rumble on the track, Marco Simoncelli’s spirit seems to be present, reminding us that courage and love for this sport never go out. He is a star that goes too fast, but the light will continue to be remembered for all time.
