Jakarta (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, extended warm greetings to the Christian community on the occasion of Good Friday, marking the Easter festivities, during his visit to the West Indonesian Protestant Church (GPIB) Immanuel in Jakarta on Friday, March 29, 2023.
Hadi Tjahjanto expressed his hope for the safe and orderly conduct of worship during the Easter celebrations across Indonesia, and wished for spiritual blessings upon those observing the occasion.
“Security measures are being implemented throughout Indonesia through joint patrols and coordination meetings involving relevant parties, particularly the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), National Police (Polri), Densus 88, and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), to ensure the peaceful conduct of worship,” stated Hadi in his official statement.
The former Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces emphasized that security measures by law enforcement are being layered to mitigate any potential threats to worshippers during the Easter festivities, culminating on Sunday, March 31, 2024.
In his remarks, the Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs elaborated on the assessments conducted at various churches across Indonesia, including prior visits to Surabaya and Jakarta Cathedral.
According to him, these church assessments are aimed at readiness and providing a sense of security to the congregants, fostering solidarity among fellow citizens to achieve harmony amidst diversity.
“We have secured the security of both open-air and enclosed churches, from all sectors, as well as ensuring security in social media platforms,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Congregation of GPIB Immanuel Jakarta, Pastor Abraham Ruben Persang, urged Christian believers to spread love and peace amid the era of information disruption prevailing today.
He suggested that such efforts could begin within the smallest community circles. “All church members are urged to collectively build a positive atmosphere, being present within the smallest segments of society,” expressed Abraham.
The coordinated efforts by the government and religious leaders aim to ensure that Easter celebrations across Indonesia proceed smoothly and securely, fostering unity and harmony among the diverse communities of the nation.
