Jakarta, (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — SMPN 252 Jakarta held a “Parenting Sharing Session: Getting to Know More about Children’s Conditions and Understanding the Right Parenting” on Monday (30/07/2024) at the Jakarta Arts Building Jl. H. Naman No 173, Pondok Kelapa, Duren Sawit East Jakarta. This activity aims to build synergy between SMPN 252 and parents in maintaining children’s mental health through parenting education.
In her speech, Fajar Asia explained that this activity was designed to help parents to synergize with schools in educating children. The ultimate goal is to ensure children grow optimally, are of good quality, and get the necessary support from parents. “In the current development, the rampant incidents of bullying, sexual harassment, and violence against children make it necessary for schools to take early preventive measures. One of them is by holding this parenting activity,” she said.
Fajar Asia also highlighted the importance of parenting in determining children’s attitudes and character, both in the school environment and in everyday life. “Students who have problems and violate school rules mostly come from families with parenting problems. Culture or habits in the home environment can also affect children’s behavior, which in turn has an impact on their mental health,” she explained.
Current conditions show that the synergy between schools, students and parents in maintaining children’s mental health is still difficult to form. “Parents’ lack of knowledge about the importance of children’s mental health as a result of parenting is a challenge in itself. Therefore, we hope this activity can help parents better understand and support their children’s mental health,” Fajar Asia added.
Rosnah, Chairperson of the SMPN 252 Jakarta Committee, also expressed her views on the importance of this activity. “This parenting sharing session is very relevant to the current condition. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of cases related to mental health has increased significantly, especially among children and adolescents. Parents’ lack of understanding about this issue has worsened the situation,” she said.
Rosnah added that Indonesian people’s awareness about mental health is still relatively low. “With this activity, it is hoped that parents can better understand, accept, and open up about their children’s mental conditions for a better future,” she concluded.
The hope of this activity is to create a positive climate and the formation of a Discussion Group Forum (FGD) between parents and schools. This FGD is expected to:
– Build a relationship and closeness between parents and teachers.
– Open a space for discussion and openness between parents and teachers.
– Provide complete information to parents about their children’s education program.
– Facilitate parents in delivering suggestions and criticisms to the school openly.
– Helping teachers get useful input as a reference and consideration in carrying out their duties as educators.
With these steps, it is hoped that schools and parents can work better together in supporting children’s mental health and optimal development.
