Trias/Rachel stopped at Taiwan Open 2025 semifinals

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE— Indonesia’s women’s doubles pair Meilysa Trias Puspitasari and Rachel Allessya Rose saw their journey at the Taiwan Open 2025 come to an end in the semifinals. The duo was defeated by Japan’s Mizuki Babae and Miyu Takahashi in straight games 14-21, 19-21 at the Taipei Arena on Saturday.

Babae and Takahashi dominated the court from the very beginning, quickly applying pressure and racing to a 9-3 lead in the first game. The Indonesian pair struggled to regain momentum and conceded the first game 14-21.

In the second game, Trias/Rachel briefly turned the tide by leading 6-4, showing improved coordination and defense. However, unforced errors at critical moments allowed the Japanese pair to claw back and take a 7-6 lead. Despite this setback, Trias and Rachel fought hard, with Rachel making sharp plays at the net that put the Indonesian duo ahead 19-17.

Yet, under pressure during the closing rallies, Trias/Rachel were unable to maintain their composure. They conceded four straight points and ultimately lost the match 19-21, ending their campaign in the semifinals.

The Japanese pair, Babae and Takahashi, have shown impressive form this season. Earlier in March, they claimed the German Open 2025 title, defeating top-seeded Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva from Bulgaria in a hard-fought final: 21-17, 20-22, 21-12.

Trias and Rachel’s defeat means that Indonesia has no representatives in the women’s doubles final of the Taiwan Open this year. Nonetheless, the mixed doubles sector offered a silver lining.

Indonesia is guaranteed to win the mixed doubles title at the Taiwan Open 2025, thanks to an all-Indonesian final between Dejan Ferdinansyah/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.

Dejan/Fadia booked their ticket to the final after defeating Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami/Sayaka Hobara in two tight games, 21-19, 21-17. Meanwhile, Jafar/Felisha advanced after a dominant 21-11, 21-15 victory over Malaysian duo Chen Tang Jie/Chan Wen Tse.

This all-Indonesian final marks a significant achievement, as it ends Indonesia’s title drought in the mixed doubles category throughout the 2025 BWF season. Before this, Indonesia had only secured one title this year—coming from the women’s doubles pair Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, who triumphed at the Thailand Masters 2025 held from January 28 to February 2.

As the Taiwan Open nears its conclusion, all eyes are now on the mixed doubles final, where the nation will celebrate regardless of the winner. The performance in this tournament highlights the growing strength of Indonesia’s younger generation of shuttlers, particularly in the mixed doubles department.

While Trias/Rachel’s journey ends at the semifinal stage, their performance has shown potential for the future. With more international exposure and consistency, they could become strong contenders on the world stage. Their ability to challenge top pairs and reach the semifinals signals promising progress in the women’s doubles category.
