Washington, D.C. (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — In a recent development, the United States has reportedly appealed to Israel to refrain from retaliatory strikes against Iran in the early hours of Friday, April 19, 2024, only to be disregarded by Israel, marking a concerning trend.
As per reports from Sputnik, citing Politico and a US official on Friday, April 19, 2024, the US “pleaded with (Israel) not to do it, and literally nobody from the Pentagon, the joint chiefs, CIA, to the intel community thought this was a good idea. At this point, it’s really embarrassing how Israel isn’t listening to us, but it doesn’t make President Biden unfaithful,” said the official.
The United States’ silent stance on Israeli attacks against Iran is seen as an effort to ease tensions in the Middle East between Israel and Iran, according to the report.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to comment on the matter during a previous briefing. Likewise, both the Pentagon and US Central Command also refused to comment to Sputnik on the issue of the retaliatory strike.
The only comment regarding Israel’s retaliatory strike came from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who downplayed US involvement in Israel’s actions.
Earlier on Friday, Iranian media reported that Israel conducted an airstrike against Iran in response to Tehran’s missile attacks and unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) incidents.
Explosions were reported near the city of Isfahan, with air defense systems responding to drone approaches in several provinces. Three Iranian officials informed The New York Times that the target of the attack was an airbase near Isfahan.
This escalation underscores the delicate situation in the region and the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions between the involved parties.
