NTT, BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE — Vice President (Vice President) Gibran Rakabuming Raka stressed that the reason the MBay/Lambo dam must be completed immediately is because of its benefits to support agricultural irrigation and flood control.
The Vice President continued his agenda in NTT, visited the Mbay/Lambo Dam construction area in Nagekeo Regency, on Tuesday afternoon (6/5).
The Vice President’s Secretariat, in its official broadcast received in Jakarta on Wednesday, the Vice President explained that the acceleration of development was needed so that the benefits were immediately enjoyed by the community, especially in supporting productive agriculture, providing clean water, and reducing flood risk.
Then, the Vice President also emphasized that the ministries/institutions related to the construction of the MBay/Lambo Dam need to be maximized as a center for new economic growth, including the development of local tourism.
“This strategic project must be accompanied by strengthening the capacity of farmers, improving public services, and sustainable environmental management,” said Vice President Gibran, as distributed in the official Setwapres RI broadcast.
MBAY/LAMBO Dam is one of 77 National Strategic Projects (PSN) as stipulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2025 concerning RPJMN 2025-2029. The construction of the Mbay/Lambo Dam began in September 2021, and the target of the Dam was completed in 2026.
Until early May 2025, the construction of the dam had reached 80.40 percent.
During his visit to the development site, the Vice President reminded of the importance of collaboration between the central and regional governments in ensuring the sustainability of the project and that its existence can be utilized optimally.
The MBay/Lambo Dam has an inundation area of ​​587.61 hectares and a watershed (DAS) covering 138.60 Km square km, with a normal capacity of 52.89 million cubic meters. Dam construction consists of two work packages whose total contract value reaches Rp1.47 trillion.
If later operations, the MBay/Lambo Dam is expected to be able to supply irrigation water of 6,240 hectares, provide raw water services by 205 liters per second, reduce the risk of flooding in downstream areas of 3,200 hectares, and support the potential of solar power plants (PLTS) to 117.5 megawatts (MW). Not only that, the Mbay/Lambo Dam is also designed as a new tourist destination on Flores Island, especially in Nagekeo Regency, NTT.
At the location of the construction of the Mbay/Lambo dam, there was also NTT Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, the Regent of Nagekeo, Simplisius Donatus, Deputy Regent of Nagekeo, Gonzalo Gatianus Muga Sada, and the ranks of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Nagekeo Regency who accompanied the Vice President Gibran.
