LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND (BERITAPOLITIK.ONLINE) — Liverpool FC received bad news with a hamstring injury suffered by their new right -back, Jeremie Frimpong.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot confirmed that the Dutch national team player will be absent until September or after the international break due to the injury he suffered during the English League opening match against Bournemouth.
“The medical team was really right about Jeremie, they asked me to replace it because he would be absent until the end of the international break. That was a good decision, because if not, the injury could be worse,” Slot said at a press conference ahead of the match against Newcastle United, quoted from the club’s official website on Thursday (8/21).
Frimpong, who just joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer market, performed impressively on his debut in the English League.
However, he had to be pulled out in the 60th minute in Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Bournemouth after feeling discomfort in his hamstring.
The decision to replace the frimpong turned out to be right, because further examination confirmed the injury that requires a recovery time of several weeks.
As a result of this injury, Frimpong was confirmed to be absent in two important Liverpool matches in the English League, namely against Newcastle United on Tuesday (26/8) and Arsenal (31/8).
He is expected to return to play on September 14 when Liverpool travel to Burnley, or no later than the Merseyside derby against Everton on September 20.
Frimpong injuries became a blow to Liverpool, especially because they also lost other options in the right back position.
Conor Bradley, who is usually a coating, has just returned to training after suffering his own hamstring injury, while Joe Gomez has not fully recovered from the Achilles problem he experienced during the preseason.
Slots say that he might use midfielders like Wataru Endo or Dominic Szoboszlai as an emergency solution in the right back position.
This condition added challenges for Arne Slot in an effort to defend the English League title, with Liverpool facing a busy schedule in September which includes domestic matches and European competition.
